A Study on the Health Interests of Unmarried Mothers

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study is to provide the foundation of the education for unmarried mothers health, and to prevent unmarried mothers.
Unmarried mothers´ health interests have been compared with those of working women. The Instrument used this study were the Health Need Inventory introduced by Rams-dell (1970).
The convenience sample was chosen from 106 unmarried mothers in a protection facility and 83 working women in a public welfare facility from January until September, 1985.
The results were analyzed by the SPSS computer program and summarized as follows:
1. Comparing total means of health interest of unmarried mother group (113.6) with working woman group(118.2), there was not significant difference.
2. Comparing the mean of 15 items in the health interest of unmarried mother group with working woman group, the latter were significantly higher than the former in "community health"(p <.01), "infection and prevention of disease"(p < .05), "oral hy-giene" (p < .05).
3. Comparing 80 contents means of health interest of unmarried mother group with working woman group, contents means of the former were significantly higher than the latter in "facilities that I can ask help in order to solving private problems"(p < .01), "the meaning of influence on artificial abortion to mother and father" (p < .05) and contents means of working woman group were significantly higher than those of unmarried mother group in "the reason for preservation of record about birth, disease, and death in community"(p < .05), "air pollution and water pollution that threaten health"(p< .01), "a community counter plan for fire"(p < .01), "safety principles for sanitary water, food, and residing environment in community"(p < .05), "infectious condition
from one to others"(p < .05), "results of self diagnose and self treatment" (p < .05), "cause of decayed tooth"(p < .05;, "method to develop confidence about oneself (p < .01), "recreation method with friends and neighbors(p < .01), "selection and handling method of clothes" (p < .05), "influencing factor for respiration rate"(p < .05); "meaning of love"(p < .05), "physical changes in high school age"(p < .05), "results that alcohol influence home life and social activities"(p < .O5).
